Enterprise Instant Messaging Future |
| |
Tandem is geared to meet the challenges of the future where, in everything a business does will revolve around real time responsiveness and presence awareness. In this respect, Tandem is being enhanced with PDA and device capability, capability to be accessed over the phone, the capability to embed its core capabilities into other applications, thus enhancing the overall enterprise.
Tandem is being groomed to be an enhanced Unified Communications (UC) tool that and will function as a hub. One could be calling your extension at your New York office, and Tandem will be aware that you are in Singapore (user defined ‘follow-me’ or IP tracking) and convey the request to your cell phone in Singapore and if you accept, patch a call transparently via VoIP. This era of a “connected and omnipresent” enterprise is already being attempted even today. We already have vendors offering Internet Protocol (IP) based PBX systems, IM vendors offering presence awareness, PDA servers allowing you access to corporate Intranets; Microsoft is betting its future on secure ‘network centric’ and ‘always available’ enterprise with its Longhorn (a.k.a. Palladium) initiative.
What is generally lacking is agglutination of the systems planned in Tandem keeping in mind the concern for security, privacy and integrity.

| Tandem vs. Other EIM |
What is an Enterprise Instant Messenger? |
| |
An Enterprise Instant Messenger (EIM) enables an enterprise for instant messaging capabilities, application sharing, and presence management yet ensuring control of users, information, etc. |
| |
Why an Enterprise Messenger? |
| |
Public IM networks are just that - networks for public communications. They do not address critical issues such as:
Security - EIM generally function behind a firewall, offer encryption, etc
Control - EIM allows administrators to control who speaks with whom
Compliance - SEC, NASD, HIPAA, Sarbanes Oxley Act, etc, are recently promulgated acts that require businesses to maintain records of communications that occur with their customers. This enhances corporate transparency, consumer protection, etc. |
| |
What other advantages will my EIM investments provide? |
| |
You can have your customers, vendors, partners sign on as users in your EIM system for communications, share applications and documents, etc; this will enhance the level of communications and cut costs. |
| |
How is Tandem different from other EIM systems? |
| |
Tandem offers a host of features and functionalities not offered by leading EIM vendors
Use Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange or Tandem’s native system for rights & authentication…
This will enhance your TCO by not having to invest in systems you don’t already own. |
| |
Enhanced Application Sharing.. |
| |
Tandem provides real time* collaboration for Microsoft Office ® suite, share FlashT presentations, collaborate on AutoCAD® drawings, securely. Further, most business applications (e.g. Sales Force Automation, ERP, etc) could be integrated to work with Tandem. |
| |
Controlled Virtual Meetings. |
| |
Rather than ad-hoc virtual meetings, you can pre-schedule planned virtual conferences and meetings with Tandem. Our Meeting Manager allows you to set an agenda, invite users and even have a copy of interaction for easy preparation of Minutes of Meetings. If you have frequent meetings, planned Virtual Conferences could eliminate some to save you time and money. |
| |
Enhanced Interactions. |
| |
Tandem incorporates text, voice** and video, enhanced with application sharing, etc. Tandem is a winning business proposition. |
| |
Interact with public IM networks** |
| |
In an upcoming upgrade, and if your IT policy permits it, you can decide if to allow for your closed system users to interact with users' of AOL, MSN, Yahoo, etc. This will enable you to communicate with your retail customers/associates without imposing your processes upon them, yet maintain security and ensure compliance. |
| |
Scalability. |
| |
Most EIM systems are designed for very large deployments. Tandem can be deployed as a 'daisy chain' to scale for large deployments but is built keeping in focus the SME. Fundamental considerations in Tandem architecture were |
